Super Woman: Today's Best Employee, Tomorrow's "The Boss"

The number of women in work force has seen considerable growth in the last decade. Embracing the super woman within, these ladies are marching forward in their high heels and proving their value to the establishment equal or at times more than their male colleagues. But one cannot help but notice that though the enrollment of woman may be well comparable to men, but when it comes to high profile positions, the board rooms are still filled with men domineering all the way. The presence of the fairer sex is very negligible in these coveted positions.

The management of any organisation is considered the brains of a body and its employees can be depicted as the heart which pumps the blood to keep the body alive. There is no dearth of women in the heart but they are very scarce when it comes to the brain. The reasons behind such gender gap are many fold. The culture of making the higher management an “all boys club” is very deep rooted. A leader cannot be made in a day. Only if a young soul is trained and mentored properly by an experienced person, only then can he or she become fit for the high end position. But unfortunately the narrow minded perception prevents most of the bosses to choose a woman his apprentice which results in lack of guidance for a woman employee thereby dampening her super woman like future prospects.

Some consider women to be too emotional to take up a management position that may require cut throat decision making. This stereo type thinking should not be used for generalization. Every women should be individually judged for her character. Many successful companies are run by such super woman as their CEO. If given a chance, more such examples will be created every day. One of the sad facet of the situation is, that at times, not only male managers but also female managers harbor this concept about their women subordinates.

A women’s efficiency to balance her life and career is tested every day, everywhere. It is easy to pass a snob comment on her lack of attention towards her career but if put to same situation, men are found to be much worse in handling a family office balance. The only irony is, due to the set up made in our society, a man is never tested for the same. A child needs a mother more than a father. An employer should understand that and rather than making it a burden on the lady, he should try to plan a lady’s working hour in a more family friendly way and help to bring out the super woman in her.

Last but not the least, the lack of motivation and zeal of progress in most employed woman is one of the biggest contributing factor towards the above stated issue. If a woman can recognize the super woman within her, then only she will be able to shine brighter than the Sun and attain what is rightfully hers.
