Being a widow or
having a husband in prison, it requires extensive psych analysis to understand
which might be more painful for a wife. When the grieving period is over, a
woman who lost her husband is generally supported by all her family and friends
to reignite her will to live and move on with her life. On the other hand, when
she is left behind by her life partner due to law enforcement, she finds it
difficult to share the trauma with her near ones let alone be supported during
such times. Having a husband in jail is such a social taboo across the world
that the punishment is equally felt by the wrongdoer as well as his family. Especially
the woman is left with no other option but to tap in her super woman like
resilience and face the consequences bravely.
As a prisoner’s
wife, you will be smashed with a wave of emotional, financial, social difficulties.
But you should not let them sink you in the abyss of hopelessness. Take a deep
breathe, sit down and think chronologically. In the beginning, you need to
decide whether to stay put as a partner of a convicted person or to part ways
and make a separate life for your own. It takes immeasurable mental strength to
stand beside an acknowledged criminal but it takes all the strength of the
super woman inside you to turn away from the love of your life.
If you decide to
stay, then you need to inculcate certain changes in your life to survive this
difficult period. Beginning with, telling yourself that “you” did not commit
the crime and so you deserved to be treated with respect and dignity like every
other person. Hiding truth from children is never advisable. Though they appear
to be fragile, but they are stronger than they look. Family should stay united
and support each other to keep the head held high in society. Like a super
woman, you need to take charge of every aspect of your family for their
welfare.
Planning your
finances properly and getting involved in every such task that your husband
used to take care of should be the next step. Economic problems can only worsen
this emotional state. During this course of survival when you will need to work
the hardest like a super woman, you should make an attempt to keep his remembrance
in the family. Pictures of happy times involving him can be framed and put
across the room. You and your children should religiously write to the person
behind bars to keep him a loving company and keep his hopes alive.
Though it might
be difficult, but a super woman like wife should also cater for the life she
can offer her husband when he comes back from such a difficult state. Constant
communication and visits should be made so that the family can remain
integrated and the anticipation of a better future is never lost.
