In the ladder of
promotion, the number of steps a woman needs to take to reach the top is found
to be more in number as well as exerting. One of the contributory factors in
this regard can be attributed to women itself. Even though she nurtures the
super woman inside her and follows the right steps, she is found to be less aggressive
than her male counterpart. She cannot be cut throat when it comes to demanding
for the big post. Adding to that, due to more number of men in powerful positions,
the chances of them promoting male subordinates over female apprentices are
considerably more.
Difference in
perception towards social networking is also a major causative factor towards
women’s leap towards leadership. Women socialise to make good relationships. Even
if they interact with woman who hold powerful positions in their common area of
interest, they will derive motivation and learning values from such interaction
but it will seldom occur to a woman that she can use this other super woman as
a means to achieve greater heights in her own career.
If a man is put to the
same situation, the angle will be totally reversed. His reason to socially
approach an icon will be to exploit him professionally. Under the cover of an
awe struck follower, he will try to charm his way in making the other guy
believe that nobody deserves his next favor more than him. Women’s need to
retain sophistication in a social relationship zips her lips from asking career favor to ease her path as a super woman.
Family expectations
from her where it is believed that her super woman like qualities should be
used to be a super wife, super mother and a super boss, ends up feeling like a
burden. So when it comes to choosing her priorities, like any other ‘good’
woman, she chooses her family over profession.
